Welcome to WMOS

A message from our President - Iain Steel

Always friendly and welcoming Winchester Musicals & Opera Society has been entertaining Hampshire audiences since 1913.

During the pandemic we weren't able to perform any live shows – however we remained vibrant and active with regular lockdown quizzes, newsletters, baking tutorials and sharing online fun to keep everyone engaged and cheerful.

WMOS is an inclusive membership society, whether you wish to be on the stage in the limelight or backstage helping with the vital elements of set design/construction, props, lighting, sound, social media/marketing, makeup, costumes or programme design – everyone has an important role to play to ensure a show is a success (both artistically and financially).

We enjoy performing a full range of musicals, operetta and light opera in the beautiful Edwardian setting of The Theatre Royal Winchester, enhanced by a Musical Director and live orchestra.

For July 2021 we rehearsed via Zoom and thoroughly enjoyed our first Open Air show ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ with a 1950’s beach hut/rock and roll vibe - to great critical acclaim - the sun shone for every performance in the exquisite setting of the Bishops Garden in Winchester.

So, welcome to our website – why not take a look around, see what show we have coming up – why not consider joining us and being part of this creative, exciting and vibrant Society?

Iain Steel

Charity Collections
We raise funds for a worthwhile charity by having collections after each performance during show week.  A different local charity is selected for each production.  If you would like your charity to be considered for selection, please contact our Front of House Manager.
